Geothermal Well Driller Bond
"Geothermal heat exchange well" means any uncased artificial excavation, by any method, that uses the heat exchange capacity of the earth for heating and cooling, in which excavation the ambient ground temperature is 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) or less, and which excavation uses a closed loop fluid system to prevent the discharge or escape of its fluid into surounding aquifiers or other geologic formations. Geothermal heat exchange wells include ground source heat pump wells.
A geothermal production well produces fluid heated by the natural heat of the earth. Geothermal fluids may be steam or hot water and in California have total dissolved solid concentrations of up to 250,000 parts per million (about seven times above sea water). Very hot geothermal fluids may be used for projects such as space heating, aquaculture, snow melting, food processing, dehydration, and hot tubs and spas.
