The drilling, construction, deepening, repair, renovation, replacement, cleaning, development, abandonment, and pump installation/repair of the following well types, if greater than 30 feet deep, is regulated by the Administrative Rules for Water Wells and the applicable work must be completed by a licensed water well driller or licensed pump installer:
Who needs the well driller bond?
In the State of Oregon, Any person who constructs, alters, or abandons monitoring wells for another person shall have a Monitoring Well Constructor License. No person shall advertise services to construct, alter, abandon or convert wells, offer to enter or enter into a contract with another person or public agency to construct, alter, abandon or convert a well for such other person, cause any well construction, alteration, abandonment or conversion to be performed under such a contract or operate well drilling machinery without possessing a water well constructors license therefor in good standing issued by the Water Resources Department, along with their $10,000 surety bond to be in compliance with ORS 537.505 to 537.795.
What is the well driller bond?
The $10,000 well driller bond protects the party requesting the surety bond, the Obligee, against any financial losses as a result of poor financial choices, damages, unethical decisions, or a failure to adhere to state and local laws on the part of you, the Principal. By obtaining your bond, you are telling the Obligee that you can be trusted and that you stand by your business decisions.
The Oregon well driller bond is also known as: Oregon well drilling contractor bond, Oregon pump installer bond, and Utah well installer bond.
What else do I need to obtain or renew my license?
Upon fulfillment of all the requirements set out in subsection (3) of this section, the department shall issue the applicant a water well constructors license in a form prescribed by the department. The license may be issued for a period of two years. A water well constructors license shall expire on June 30 or on such date as may be specified by department rule.
